SUMMARY:Sustainability and Resilience: Building Cities of the Future with Engineers of Tomorrow
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Nadine Ibrahim, PhD, University of Waterloo  Location: ERF Room 1047 or Zoom   Meeting ID: 830 5224 6369  Passcode: CME@1234    Abstract: The talk is three-pronged to give a snapshot of three topics which are: sustainability, resilience, and engineering education with the intention of sharing urban futures ideas, sharing sustainability resources, and sharing learning experiences. The talk first shines a light on sustainability in cities with a high level overview of sustainability metrics across cities, megacities and megaregions. The second part is an example of how to immerse students in sustainability thinking for urban futures, where resources for sustainability e-books will be shared. And the third part is a hands-on learning experience using the LEGO Serious Play method to explore resilience.    Speaker Bio: Nadine Ibrahim is an Associate Professor, Teaching Stream and the Turkstra Chair in Urban Engineering in Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo. She holds a BASc, MASc, and PhD in Civil Engineering, and a Certificate of Preventive Engineering and Social Development from the University of Toronto. She was also a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto working on Engineering Education for Sustainable Cities in Africa and piloting a Global Classroom. Leveraging her academic experience and industry practice, she teaches sustainable development, civil engineering systems, and design. Her mandate to promote industry-academic collaborations gets her working with municipalities on urban infrastructure, sustainability, and resilience. She is past-President of the Canadian Engineering Education Association (CEEA-ACÉG), and chairs the special interest group on the Engineer of 2050. She is an Ambassador to ?How to Change the World? and leads the Canadian Engineering Grand Challenges Champions program, which motivates what we teach, learn and research.
