Chicago Sun-Times talks to Professor Farhad Ansari about Chicago bridges

The Chicago Sun-Times turned to UIC Distinguished Professor Farhad Ansari to discuss Chicago bridges for the article “1 in 6 Chicago bridges are in ‘poor’ condition. How worried should you be?”
The article noted that about 17% of the city’s 601 bridges are ‘structurally deficient,’ which is more than twice the national average.
After reviewing inspection records, Ansari identified several of the city’s most heavily used bridges that could face emergency closures in the future.
Ansari pointed out the Grand Avenue over the North Branch of the Chicago River as one of the worst.
“I’d say that’s the most likely bridge they look at in the near future,” he told the Sun-Times. “It’s superstructure, and basically all the truss work are in critical condition.”
