Crain’s recognizes ‘notable leaders’ at UIC

UIC Distinguished Professor and Department Head Abolfazl “Kouros” Mohammadian has been selected as one of Crain’s Chicago Business Notable Leaders in Architecture and Engineering.
As department head, Mohammadian manages more than 600 students, 40-plus faculty and staff, and seven degree programs. His research has covered transportation systems engineering, modeling and simulation, travel behavior analysis, travel demand forecasting, travel survey methods, and freight and logistics modeling.
He is well known for using computational methods to advance transportation system operations and the mobility of people and goods in next-generation infrastructure systems.
As part of the list, he is among 91 honorees who lead architecture studios, engineering firms, construction companies, development teams, public agencies, and civic organizations. The list also includes UIC College of Engineering Dean Lola Eniola-Adefeso and electrical and computer engineering Professor Natasha Devroye.
The list recognizes professionals shaping the buildings, infrastructure, and public spaces that define the Chicago area. Their work includes transportation systems, housing, schools, healthcare facilities, cultural institutions, commercial projects, and major public-private investments.
Many of the honorees are also expanding access to careers, mentoring emerging professionals, and strengthening community partnerships. They reflect industry growth, design excellence, infrastructure needs, and neighborhood impact at a moment when the built environment is central to the region’s future and economy.
“This is a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field and his impact both at UIC and in the broader professional community,” Eniola-Adefeso said.
