A water distribution systems analysis perspective

CME Department Seminar

May 6, 2024

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM America/Chicago

Location

ERF 1047

Address

842 W. Taylor St., Chicago, IL 60607

Presenter: Avi Ostfeld, Phd, Technion – Israel Institute of Technology
Location: ERF 1047

Abstract: This seminar is aimed at providing an overview of Avi Ostfeld’s experience in water distribution systems analysis (WDSA) since 1985. The seminar encompasses an introductory segment focusing on WDSA covering simulation, management, and modeling aspects related to flow (Q), pressure/head (H), and water quality (C). Following this, it delves into several illustrative example applications, outlines the landscape of WDSA, discusses future trajectories for the field, and reflects on key insights assembled from Ostfeld’s journey.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Avi Ostfeld, a full professor and the ATS staff academic chair at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, specializes in water resources systems and optimization of water distribution systems using evolutionary computation. His work focuses on water security through optimal monitoring, water quality event detection, booster chlorination station allocations, and integrating water quality and reliability into water distribution systems management and control. His CV and list of publications are available at https://ostfeld.net.technion.ac.il/
