Advanced Engineering Research

CME Department Seminar

October 13, 2023

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM America/Chicago

ERF 1047

842 W. Taylor St., Chicago, IL 60607

Presenter: Kristyn Caragher, PhD, University of Illinois Chicago

Abstract: In this session, we will go over the differences between IEEE, an engineering research database, and Web of Science, the largest citation database in science, engineering, medicine, and technology, with a focus on conducting literature reviews. Students will practice developing a complex search strategy from an example topic and then will develop their own based on their own individual research interests. Please come to class with a research question or topic prepared ahead of time and a laptop so you can participate.

Speaker Bio: Kristyn Caragher is an Assistant Professor and STEM Librarian in the Research Services and Resources Department (RSR) in the University Library at the University of Illinois Chicago. Her interests include racial equity in libraries, interdisciplinary research practices in STEM, diversifying citational practices, and community engagement. Her current national study “Racial Equity in Libraries” examines the ways in which academic and public libraries are moving towards transformation and justice in regard to racial equity. You can connect with Kristyn and learn more about UIC’s engineering resources here:

Please bring a laptop to practice some of the search techniques.
