CBS 2 News talks to UIC engineer about new metals
CBS 2 reporter Tim McNicholas visited Assistant Professor Matthew Daly’s Advanced Materials and Microstructures Lab at UIC to learn about his research developing lighter and stronger metals. Daly and Adjunct Professor Vineeth Kumar Gattu, who also works for the U.S. Department of Energy at Argonne National Laboratory, provided insights about when certain metals reach their breaking point.
McNicholas turned to the engineers as part of his investigation into a problem that’s plagued Chicago: dangerous, rusty street poles that topple over in the wind.
