Matthew Daly receives Young Leaders Professional Development Award

Matthew Daly, an assistant professor in civil, materials, and environmental engineering at UIC

Matthew Daly, an assistant professor in civil, materials, and environmental engineering at UIC, recently received the 2023 Materials Processing & Manufacturing Division Young Leaders Professional Development Award from the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS). This award is given annually to two early career researchers in recognition of their service to the society and research accomplishments.

“I am deeply honored to receive this professional development award. Since attending my first meeting in 2014, I have been extremely impressed by the bottom-up approach TMS takes toward programming and outreach. This approach to volunteerism has been key to my engagement with the community, and I look forward to continuing my service to the division and the society through the functions and activities of this award,” Daly said.

TMS is a professional association that connects minerals, metals, and materials scientists and engineers who work in industry, academia, and government positions around the world. It created the award to enhance the professional development of dynamic young people from TMS’ five technical divisions by helping them participate in society activities, become better acquainted, make important contacts with TMS leaders, and network with prominent society members.
