Undergraduate Academic Advising

Advising instructions Heading link

Faculty will conduct advising appointments in person or remotely from Monday, Oct. 28, to Friday, Nov. 1.  Each faculty will decide on how they will conduct their advising appointment and will communicate this to each student.

Students will receive instructions from their faculty advisor with details. Students who do not receive an email by Friday, Oct. 25, should email their advisor (the list of advisors is available here). If you email your advisor and do not receive a response, please email Clinical Professor Hossein Ataei at hataei@uic.edu and await further instructions.

Print or download the CME curriculum flowchart.

Cross off any courses you have taken and have this copy with you at your advisor meeting.

Visit the my.uic.edu portal. From the left navigation, choose XE Registration. Then select “Fall 2024 – Chicago” and search for CME in the subject box. This will return all the courses offered next semester by the CME department.

Plan your schedule ahead of your advising session through the “Plan Ahead” tool:

  • Go to my.uic.edu
  • Sign in with your NetID
  • On the welcome page, choose XE Registration
  • Select the Plan Ahead tool
  • Save a New Plan
  • From here, you can add/drop courses into your schedule to make sure there are no time conflicts.
  • Note: This is just a planner and does not sign you up for courses. You still need to sign up once registration opens.

Please review your online degree audit report, which you can find in the my.uic.edu portal under uAchieve. Have your audit report with you for your advising appointment. If you have questions about what is on your degree audit report or feel that it is inaccurate, please email one of the College of Engineering undergraduate advisors so that they can review the report and make any necessary changes. When contacting one of the COE advisors, include your UIN in the email and be as specific as possible about what you believe is wrong with your degree audit report so that they can better understand the problem and get back to you in a timely manner.

Have your advising form completed with the list of courses that you plan to take in fall 2021 when you meet with your CME faculty advisor. Once you have confirmed your courses with your advisor, please sign your form and send it to your advisor, who will email it to the department office to remove your registration hold.

If you have any questions about the registration process, please contact your advisor or Dr. Hossein Ataei, CME’s director of undergraduate studies.

Please download the PDF form for advisor evaluation. Please complete it after your advising appointment and email it to Anne Kowalski in the CME office. The survey takes less than five minutes. The results are anonymous, but completion is recorded.

The College of Engineering administration has noticed that many students are registering for courses without meeting the listed prerequisites. The prerequisites are listed for a reason, and it is expected that you know the material from these prerequisite courses before moving on to the next level. Instructor permission does not waive course prerequisites.

Students registered in courses for which they do not have the prerequisites will be dropped from these courses after the add/drop deadline and will not be able to add another course to their schedule. Courses dropped in this way will show up as a “W” on a student’s academic record. Students can view the prerequisites for courses in the UIC catalog.
