ABC 7 News talks to Professor Ansari about Chicago bridges
Reporters from ABC-7 Chicago reached out to UIC Distinguished Professor and Christopher B. and Susan S. Burke Professor of Civil Engineering Farhad Ansari for an expert opinion for their special report about bridges in Chicago.
Ansari went with the I-Team to examine the 18th Street bridge in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood where he pointed out the issues that has it classified as being in “poor condition” by state inspectors.
“We are looking at a lot of corrosion, a lot of shear cracks, major shear cracks,” said Ansari as he pointed out issues under the bridge. “Structurally deficient bridges may not create an imminent danger, but they are dangerous.”
